Exuberant monsoon tourism is killing the youth
A 27-year-old Mumbai-based woman slipped and fell into a
300-feet ravine after going to Kumbhe to make a reel for Instagram.
Anvi Kamdar, a Chartered Accountant by profession and a famous
Instagram social media influencer, tragically died after falling into a ravine.
The thrill of the rescue work - stones were falling on the
rescuers themselves - the rescue work was done at the risk of life
Mangaon,
Kumbhe and Devkund waterfalls in Mangaon in Raigad district
are popular for monsoon tourism, with a huge number of tourists visiting during
monsoons, including overzealous young women who risk their lives to take
pictures and reel on social media. Incidentally, a 27-year-old Chartered Accountant
from Mumbai "Ms. Anvi Kamdar" along with her friends came to social
media on Tuesday 16th July to make an Instagram reel at the famous Kumbh cliff,
but her journey and reel unfortunately ended in her life. It is the last
journey of her life.
On Tuesday, July 16, between 9 am, while passing through a
narrow and slippery road on the edge of a cliff, her foot slipped and she fell
into a 300-foot-deep gorge. Her friends who were with her informed the nearby
Mangaon police station, and Mangaon Senior Police Inspector Nivrithi Borade
immediately rushed to the spot. Called all nearby rescue teams. Kumbhe Gram
Panchayat Sarpanch and some members, of Gram Panchayat staff also rushed to the
spot, and Mahavitaran staff were also taking stock of the deep ravine before the
rescue teams rushed in for the rescue operation. The Shelar Mama Rescue Team
from Vile also reached there immediately but due to rain heavy fog and
inadequate equipment, nothing could be done.
Sagar Dahimbekar of the Kolad Rescue Team immediately left
with his colleagues as soon as he came to know about the incident. He contacted
wildlife researcher Shantanu Kuveskar from Mangaon as he was more familiar with
the Kumbhe area and he also immediately left with his colleagues. As soon as
they reached here around 1 pm, the rescue operation started.
As soon as they reached the spot, Shantanu Kuveskar and
Sagar Dahimbekar and their colleagues Suraj Dahimbekar and Shubhankar Vanarse
reached the girl who was lying in the valley in about 15 minutes only with the
help of a safety rope. Considering the seriousness of the incident at that
time, it was thought that the girl might have died but the girl was still
breathing. Together, the four secured the girl on a stretcher, making it more
challenging to carry her 300 feet up through the boulders that tumbled down the
deep ravine.
There was no help from above for a long time and
communication was not good, facing the falling stones and adverse conditions,
two more colleagues Prayag Bamugade and Shubhayanam Sansa, Shantanu Kuveskar,
Sagar Dahimbekar, Suraj Dahimbekar and Shubhankar Vanarse reached down to help
and all of them rescued the girl. About 100 feet above the fall, a stretcher
was raised, and then Chirag Mehta and Om Shinde of the Seascape Rescue Team at
Mahad rappelled down into the valley, speeding up the rescue.
With the help of equipment available in extremely adverse
conditions, members of Seascape, Kolad and Shelar Mama Rescue Team and other
helpers pulled the severely injured Anvila up with the help of a rope along
with a stretcher. At this time, her breathing was slow, so she was immediately
taken to the Mangaon sub-district hospital in an ambulance. But before reaching
here Anvi was told by the doctor that she died.
Mangaon police inspector Nivritti Borade, assistant police
inspector Narendra Beldar and police colleagues as well as Mangaon Tehsildar
Vikas Garudkar and Revenue staff, Talathi, Mandal officers and Kumbhe Gram
Panchayat Sarpanch, Upasarpanch and villagers were present at the place till
Anvi was pulled out from the valley during the whole rescue operation of this unfortunate
incident. was
