Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary: Bhavabhuti's Padmapur Famous Nagzira Sanctuary.

He wrote plays in Kalpi, a village on the banks of the Yamuna. Spread over an area of 152 sq km spread over Bhandara and Gondia districts, Nagzira Sanctuary is famous for its wildlife. In Sanskrit, the word Nag also means elephant, hence the name Nagzira.

The sanctuary also has Nagzira Sanctuary Lake. A nice experiment has been done here to preserve the natural state in its entirety. There is no electricity supply in this sanctuary. Here, the state birds of Maharashtra, Haryal, Turmeric, Bluewing, Heavenly Dancer, and Navarangi, as well as birds of prey like the Turewala Serpent Eagle, Fish Eagle, White-Eyed Buzzard, and many types of butterflies and different types of spiders, are seen.

The number of violent animals is also not less here. The area of this Nagzira includes parts of Sakoli, Lakhni in Bhandara district, and part of Tiroda taluka in Gondia district. Adjacent to this area are Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, Navegaon National Park, Navegaon Sanctuary, and Koka Sanctuary. There are 12 lakes in this area. .They feed the Nagzira Sanctuary wildlife. A'scaffold' has been set up in the Chanditibba area to watch the wild life.

About (History):

Once upon a time, there were gond kings in the forest of Nagzira Wildlife Nagzira Sanctuary. This area was declared a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1970. The sanctuary was brought under the charge of the Deputy Conservator of Forests, Nagpur, in 1984. In 2012, the Maharashtra state government announced the inclusion of this area under Project Vagh.

Location:

The total area of this park is approximately . 152.81 square kilometers. The sanctuary is located in the Bhandara and Gondia districts of Maharashtra. Geographically, the territory of this sanctuary falls under the Nagpur Circle of the State Forest Department. The management and administration of this sanctuary are under the control of the Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Nagpur. The vast area of this beautiful sanctuary falls under the Nagzira range.

Plants and animals of a particular region or period:

Nagzira Sanctuary Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. About 34 mammals, 166 avifauna species, 4 amphibians, and 36 reptiles are found in the park. Major mammals found in the park are the tiger, palm civet, small Indian civet, jungle cat, panther, sloth bear, gaur, common giant flying squirrel, mouse deer, gaur, pangolin, four-horned antelope, and ratel. The main avifauna species found in the sanctuary are bar-head goose, mofal, etc. Major reptiles and amphibians here are Indian Rock Python, Indian Cobra, Dhamman, Checkered Kelback, Russell's Snake, Common Monitor, Bull-frog, Tree Frog. , six-legged frog, etc. One can also take an elephant ride in the sanctuary. Apart from this, the flora of the sanctuary is also diverse, as it has an opaque expanse of mixed forests, teak forests, bamboo groves, and grasslands.

Places to visit:

Currently, there is a small museum in the Nagzira Sanctuary Nagzira Tourist Complex. The museum is used for conservation education among tourists. A variety of stuffed birds can be seen in the showcase here. An interpretation centre in the complex currently houses audio-visual material. Besides, the sanctuary has 5 watch towers and 5 watch cabins. The Mahadev temple at Pongezara is adjacent to the sanctuary. This temple gathers people during Mahashivratri.

Best season:

The sanctuary is open to tourists from October to June.

Accommodation:

A number of comfortable and clean forest guest houses are available in the reserve for comfortable and cosy accommodation. There is also food availability within the reserve.
