Line two cake pans with a diameter of six inches by lining the sides with parchment paper that is two inches high. Grease the parchment paper and the pan's edges lightly to keep the cake from sticking. Next, line the bottom of the pan with a parchment paper that fits the pan snugly.

Combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, sea salt, and cacao powder in a large bowl.

Combine the oil, vanilla, zest, juice, and apple puree in a separate bowl. After that, whisk until fully incorporated into the flour mixture. Once you've added the cider vinegar, stir until bubbles form.

Fill prepared pans with cake mixture, and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the tester inserted in the centre comes out clean.

After approximately an hour, fully cool the cakes in a pan on the rack. To loosen, cut along the pan's sides.

Place the cakes onto a dish and remove the parchment paper. Allow it to cool fully, then transfer to the refrigerator to get extremely cold, which will facilitate slicing. After the cakes are cold, cut them in half horizontally to create four layers.

based on how heated it has been, up to an hour).

Put one layer of cake on a platter and prepare it for frosting. Cover the first layer with a layer of icing about 1/2 inch thick, and then cover the second layer.  Once again, frost the cake layer, followed by another, and yet another, before finishing with frosting. Cover the cake with icing and run it down the edges.  Just before serving, decorate the top of the cake with slices of blood orange.  The cake should be kept chilled.

In the meantime, create the frosting by combining all the ingredients in a high-speed blender or food processor, blending until smooth, excluding the cacao and coconut butter.  Add the cacao and coconut butter and process for a further minute while the motor is running.  Transfer the frosting to a bowl and refrigerate until it reaches the consistency of whipped cream, which might take up to two hours.
