After a very long period, Porsche has managed to prevent a symbol from becoming entirely electrified. Today's 911 is a hybrid. The seventh-generation 911 is undergoing a mid-cycle redesign that incorporates new styling cues, a new interior, and a new 3.6-liter flat-six engine in addition to hybridization.

911 Hybrid Porsche: Drivetrain

The 3.0-liter engine from the original Carrera GTS has been replaced with a new 3.6-liter flat-six engine (which will continue in other 911 variants). This engine generates 485 PS and 570 Nm of torque by itself.
Porsche is now able to replace its dual-turbo setup with a single electric turbocharger thanks to hybrid technology.

There is now an electric motor included in the 8-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. Thus, the Porsche 911 isn't like other hybrids. It runs on a 400 volt lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1.9 kWh.
Porsche also installed a slender lithium-ion battery to run the car's 12 V internal electrical system.

All of this means that the car's upgraded drivetrain, with 541 PS and 610 Nm of torque, can now complete the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 3 seconds.
If you keep your foot on the gas pedal, it will take 10.5 seconds to reach 200 kmph. The maximum speed is 312 kmph.

A host of handling improvements will also be made for the GTS variants to assist them manage their increased power.
The car now has an electro-hydraulic control system that Porsche claims enables more precise and flexible control over the anti-roll stabilisation system. Additionally, rear-axle steering has been added, and the company's Dynamic Chassis Control has been integrated with the high-voltage system.

The hybrid technology has only added 50 kg to the 911's overall weight, which has grown to 1,500 kg. However, in terms of real performance, the 2010 Porsche 911 GTS with the T-Hybrid system beat the previous generation by 8.7 seconds.

The outside and interior of the Porsche 911 Hybrid

The car receives some exterior improvements, but the general silhouette remains the same. This generation of 911s features revised bumpers as well as a new headlamp cluster, similar to previous facelifts.
The redesigned, deeper and wider continuous LED taillights may give the back end a more aggressive appearance. Another option available to customers are HD matrix LED lights, which are claimed to be able to light a road for over 600 metres.

Porsche's 12.6-inch curved display, which is fully digital and offers seven different perspectives, is housed inside the 911. One of the perspectives is the 'Classic' display, which is modelled after the classic five-tube Porsche dial design with a central tachometer. A new engine started button and driver assistance lever go along with this updated display. Inductive smartphone charging is now available inside the cooled compartment of the 911's centre console storage box.
