Vedant, who had just completed his 12th standard, had gone to a graduation party with his friends on Saturday night. On the way, he took his father's (Vishal Agarwal) luxury Porsche car to Cosie restaurant in Mundhwa. 60 to 70 children of big businessmen of the city had a drinking party at Cosie restaurant.
Then Vedanta and some of his friends went to a pub called Black in Marriott suits. After finishing the party in black, Vedanta sat in the driving seat and made the driver sit next to him. His two friends were also sitting in the back of the car. Vedant, under the influence of alcohol, increased the speed of the car, lost control after coming in front of Trump Tower and hit the Pulsar in front of him. After that, he hit a Swift car.
Staff from Ballr Pub rushed to the spot. Some of these eyewitnesses told Scoop that the impact was so terrifying that Ashwini Costa, who was sitting behind, was thrown about 10 to 15 feet in the air and fell down. She died on the spot due to head injury. Anis Durdiya was also seriously injured, some youths saw his movement, picked him up in a rickshaw and took him to Sahyadri Hospital on Nagar Road, but he also died before reaching the hospital.
No one paid attention to these two young ladies. MLA Sunil Tingre rushed to the police station to defend Agarwal. Initially, Vedanta was dramatised as a minor. It didn't last long either. Just like the Salman Khan heat and run case, the driver was framed, but the eyewitnesses stood up for the dead young man and woman.
He gave the police video evidence that the car was being driven by Vedant, and the driver was sitting on the side. Here even those pursuing the action were being offered to remain silent. Eventually Yerawada police registered a case against Vedant Agarwal and arrested him.
In many cases, showing late arrest, the accused is kept in custody for a day to keep him in fear of the law. But here promptly following the provisions of CRPC the accused was produced before the vacation court. Vedanta was granted immediate bail as all sections were bailable. This case raised many questions.
