Johnson's success in the domestic circuit helped him get into the Indian team; in the 1995–96 Ranji Trophy season, he bowled 10 for 152 against Kerala.

At the age of 52, former India pacer David Johnson passed away in Bengaluru on Thursday. In two 1996 Test matches, he participated and claimed three wickets.

One of the fastest bowlers in India, Johnson's exploits on the local circuit helped him get into the Indian team. During the 1995–96 Ranji Trophy season, he bowled 10 for 152 against Kerala.

In 1996, he played his first Test match in New Delhi, against Australia. Michael Slater was dismissed by him while Australia was touring India.

Although he was only able to participate in the first Test match of the South African tour, the right-arm bowler managed to take the wickets of Brian McMillan and Herschelle Gibbs.
