Due to the dominance of Nana Phadnis, Madhavrao Peshwa —Sawai Madhav Rao—did not get a chance to govern independently. Nana's suspicious and secretive attitude towards keeping a close eye on everything led to quarrels between Sawai Madhavrao and Nana. In this way, the Nizam of Hyderabad launched a major campaign against the Maratha kingdom. The Nizam had been defeated many times before by the Marathas. He owed the Marathas a quarter of three crores and a half of three lakhs. Refusing to give it, the Nizam attacked. At this time, all the chieftains of the Maratha empire united and overthrew the Nizam in the battle of Khardya. This battle took place on March 12, 1795. The Nizam agreed to pay all the previous debts. This victory spread enthusiasm in the Peshwa Maratha Empire.

Later, Mahadji Shinde-Patilbaba came to Maharashtra. During this stay, he gave Madhavaravas manmaratab, feasts, and pansuparas. Svari took the hunter with him and told him about exercising the right to wealth. From then on, the Peshwa s situation became particularly dependent. The Peshwas returned from the campaign of Khardya. Bajirao Raghunath was imprisoned in Junnar. He was with the Peshwa .

Sawai Madhavrao died on October 27th, 1795, without getting a chance to rule independently.

Madhavrao Peshwa : Sawai Madhavrao himself was not competent or wise, but his existence consolidated the power of Peshwa Maratha Empire Marathas. After his death, mutual hatred, personal selfishness, and a tussle for power started among the Peshwas, and the separatist tendency took root. After that, in 20–22 years, the British destroyed the power of the Marathas.
