THE "WHITE ROSE" EXECUTION, 1943
Today, July 13, 1943, marked 81 years since the National Socialists put Prof. Kurt Huber and Alexander Schmorell to death. They belonged to one of the most well-known resistance groups to Hitler, the "White Rose".
National Socialism's Warning Signs
To show how young people in Munich opposed National Socialism, friends Sophie and Hans Scholl founded this group. Their peers were encouraged to resist by the leaflets they produced and distributed.
On February 18, 1943, the university's caretaker betrayed the Scholl twins to the Secret State Police.
The two and the other members of the White Rose were put to death shortly after.
Hans and Sophie Scholl were members of the "White Rose" resistance group at Munich University. Following their distribution of anti-Nazi pamphlets, the siblings were caught and executed at Stadelheim Prison.

The Scholl siblings and their pals continue to inspire a lot of people to this day. They are honoured by squares and schools bearing their names, and documentaries have been made about their lives.
