Police Commissioner Shahid Ashok Kamte
26- Today is the Memorial Day of Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte, the hero of 11, who was martyred in the terrorist attacks of Mumbai.
All the world knows that Ashok sir was a conscientious police officer.
But not many people know that he was a famous "wrestler".
His native village is Chambli, Taluka Purandar near Pune. He was born on 23 February 1965.
Purandar who saved the Swarajya by giving Shivrayan a thousand hands of strength, gave him a tiger like Murarbaji, this tiger was born in the same valley.
Village after village in Shiv Chhatrapati Swarajya were wrestlers at that time, Chambli was one of them. The village inherited the tradition of wrestling.
His father was a wrestler in the Indian Army, his recruitment was from the sport of wrestling. When he retired from the army, he was a Colonel.. Colonel M.R.Kamte.
Ashok Kamte, born in such a rich tradition of wrestling, grew up taking wrestling lessons from a young age, and at a young age he impressed many famous wrestlers.
The red soil in which they grew up as children, the ancients looking at which childhood ended and youth came, all told them..that we have to show something extraordinary.
It was with this same determination that he attained the rank of officer in the Indian Police Force (IPS) batch of 1989.
His subsequent journey is like a hero in a movie.
His career scaled further...
1989: Indian Police Officer
1991: Assistant Superintendent of Police, Bhandara District
1994: Superintendent of Police, Satara
1997–1999: Superintendent of Police, Thane Rural
1999–2000: UN Mission Bosnia.
2000–2002: Deputy Commissioner Police Mumbai
2002–2004: District Superintendent of Police, Sangli
2004–2005: District Superintendent of Police, Kolhapur
2006–2008: Commissioner of Police, Solapur
June 2008 – November 2008: Additional Commissioner of Police Mumbai
1995: Special Seva Medal - Naxalite Division
1999: UN Medal
1999: Foreign Service Medal UN Dept
2004: Awarded Director General's insignia
2005: Internal Security Medal
2006: Police medal
Today, Maharashtra has forgotten that this gentleman who won these titles and trophies was literally a wrestler.
Ah this Tambadi soil is very strange..she gets angry with injustice..and this is what creates a strange history...one of the golden history is ...Sw.Pailwan.Ashok Kamte.
I am sure that the terrorists who shot him must have been stunned for a moment.
During his police career, he did not even back down to fight directly with many corrupt rulers... People of every district must know this... including Solapur.
They have raised their eyebrows by opposing the rulers who support many hardened criminals.
Even though the police force may have lost a skilled officer in the 2008 attack ..but we wrestlers have lost a living source of our inspiration,
My appeal to all wrestlers ..fulfill Ashok sir's dream.
Rather than being recruited as a police constable post, become an officer and fulfill your dream. Don't underestimate yourself..!!
