Google is integrating Circle into Chrome's desktop search
feature : This is how it operates.
31/7/2024,
A function akin to Circle to Search on Android is now
available on desktop Chromebooks and Chromebooks with a Google Lens icon.
The Chrome 128 beta and ChromeOS 127 beta now support the
new feature.
Given that it is currently displayed on the "What's New
in Chrome" page, it might soon be available in the stable version.
The Circle to Search tool from Google has received a lot of
attention lately. Some Pixel and Galaxy devices already have this feature,
which lets users start searches by circling content directly on their screens.
Google offers a wide range of tools, Chrome being the only one
that is constantly being enhanced for the user. As a result, desktop
Chromebooks and Chromebooks with a Google Lens symbol can now utilise a feature
similar to Circle to Search on Android.
Let's look at the details.
According to a report by 9To5Google, the new capability is
included in the ChromeOS 127 beta and Chrome 128 beta. Given that it is
currently displayed on the "What's New in Chrome" page, it might soon
be available in the stable version.
"With Google Lens on Chrome, you can quickly search
whatever you see on your screen. On a webpage, a slide shown during a
livestream, or a video you are now watching, you can search within an image.
With the new knowledge you've gained, you may carry on browsing, and Google
Lens will offer you solutions directly within your browser," the page
says.
To enable Circle to Search on Chromebooks, click the new
Google Lens icon next to the bookmark star in the address bar. The same
animation that appears on Android smartphones will then be displayed by Google,
asking you to "Select anything to search with Google Lens."
When you move your mouse over the Lens symbol, a "Drag
to search" loupe will appear with crosshairs. Double-tapping allows you to
pick an area and resize the box as necessary. Next, a Google Lens side panel
displaying the search results will emerge.
The Lens icon is absent from the address bar on Mac and
Windows. Alternatively, you can pin the new "Search with Google Lens"
option in the overflow menu for convenient access, along with other side panel
shortcuts.
