According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Meta is preparing to
introduce its ground-breaking augmented reality spectacles later this year.
Even though the details of the new product are still unclear, Meta Ray-Ban
fans will be thrilled to hear this news.
The hazy picture that
a user named Matthew Karolian uploaded on Threads is the only view we
have seen thus far.
A pair of large spectacles with peculiar bends around the
lenses and halfway through each arm is seen in the picture.
In response to Karolian's article, Mark Zuckerberg hinted
that these glasses are, in fact, the newest model in Meta's augmented reality
lineup. He stated, "Will be ready to share more later this year,"
which prompted many to assume that further information would be disclosed at
Meta's annual Connect conference on September 25. At last year's Connect event,
Meta debuted its well-known Ray-Ban smart eyewear.
A recent story from The Information (via Gizmodo) claims
that Meta's upcoming AR glasses would have sophisticated features, such as a
heads-up display that uses conventional projection technology in the right
lens.
The glasses are anticipated to weigh about 70 grammes, which
is almost twice as much as a regular pair of sunglasses. The rounded arms may
have been intended to counteract some of the weight, which adds to the hefty
look of the grainy picture.
There is speculation as to whether the new eyewear will
still feature the Ray-Ban emblem. The article suggests that Meta may be
shunning the Ray-Ban name.
Even as we wait for more detailed details, it's clear that
Meta's new augmented reality glasses are expected to have a significant impact
on the augmented reality business. For now, we'll have to wait and see what
these AR glasses can offer and how they appear.
