Mumbai Monsoon Fury: There seems to be no end to the
problems caused by rain in India. On the one hand, when on the very first day
of the monsoon, such rain occurred in the capital Delhi that there was a
situation like waterlogging, then Gujarat was also not behind it. But, today
the news is from the industrial capital Mumbai. Heavy rainfall since morning
has led to waterlogging in several parts of Mumbai city. Passengers travelling
on the road had a tough time as the water entered the railway station. Two
airlines also had to issue advisories.
When will it rain in Mumbai? IMD said.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD),
Mumbai will receive moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day on Monday,
with thundershowers during the night. Maharashtra is expected to receive heavy
rain for the next few days. Central Maharashtra and Marathwada region are
likely to receive heavy rainfall from July 8 to July 10.
Schools and colleges closed for the first session The
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that between 1 pm and 7 am on
Monday, many places received heavy rainfall of more than 300 millimetres (mm).
Due to heavy rains in some low-lying areas, waterlogging occurred and suburban
train services were disrupted.
The BMC has declared a holiday for the first session for all
BMC, government and private schools and colleges in Mumbai to avoid
inconvenience to students. It further said that information about the next
session will be made after taking stock of the situation.
Buses have changed routes.
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) said
several buses had to be diverted due to waterlogging on roads.
Waterlogging at Mumbai railway station due to heavy rainfall
Heavy rains in Maharashtra led to waterlogging at stations
and on tracks, disrupting suburban services of the Central Railway. "Train
services between Sion and Bhandup and Nahur stations are affected," the
Central Railway Public Relations Officer (CRPO) said in a statement. The rainwater was above the tracks, so the trains were stopped for about an hour. Now
the water has receded a bit, so trains are resuming but services are still
affected. Later, the Western Railway made a statement that they had arranged
high-capacity water pumps to remove water from the tracks, and the suburban
section is now functioning normally. It said that trains between Kalyan and
Kasara are running at a slightly intermittent speed.
Western Railway has issued a statement saying that suburban
trains are running late by up to 10 minutes due to water above track level
between Matunga Road and Dadar due to heavy rains. High-capacity water pumps
are being used to pump out water from railway tracks.
Two airlines issued advisories The impact of Mumbai's
torrential rains did not just stop at rail and road routes, airlines also
had to issue advisories. IndiGo and Vistara, which operate flights from the
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), have issued an
advisory for passengers saying that flight services will be disrupted due to
rain. The company will make the necessary compensation due to the interruption.
