Indian physicians have done a commendable job in treating
and preventing a number of infectious and non-communicable illnesses that
affect our large population.
India is proud to have reached the "Golden Finishing
Line," or the doctor-to-population ratio of 1:1,000, as recommended by the
World Health Organization.
According to the Ministry of Health's most recent official
announcement, we have not only met this target but exceeded it by delivering
one doctor for every 834 people.
As of June 2022, 13,08,009 allopathic physicians in India
were registered with the National Medical Commission (NMC) and state medical
councils.
Bringing honor to the country, Indian physicians have done a
commendable job in both preventing and treating a number of ailments that
affect our large population, both communicable and non-communicable. With their
reputation for quality, Indian physicians have gained recognition worldwide for
their ability to provide patients with top-notch treatment throughout the
nation.
It is not uncommon for patients to go to India for treatment
from far-off countries. So much so that India is becoming the world's center
for medical tourism.
It's also interesting to note the many contributions that
physicians of Indian heritage have made to the field of medicine.
For example, medical experts at AIIMS determined which
strains of the HPV virus are most common and account for tens of thousands of
fatalities each year; Ophthalmologists in Chennai developed a fibrin glue
method for intraocular lens fixation for the first time ever; Doctors in
Bangalore collaborated with Canadian research teams to develop a five-in-one
poly pill to reduce the incidence of stroke and cardiovascular illness; One of
the most innovative neurosurgeons in Mumbai developed a method for treating
basilar invagination that is currently the accepted global standard.

brought to light how India, formerly recognized for its snake charmers, is
today renowned across the world for its physicians and the excellent caliber of
healthcare services they provide.
Internationally in demand service
Indian physicians are becoming more and more acknowledged
for their expertise, background, and exposure. They have received invitations
to visit and run health camps in Iraq, the Commonwealth of Independent States,
and Africa.
