1/7/2024,
The Player of the Match in the T20 World Cup Final
undoubtedly went out on a high note.
It's just Virat Kohli to end his incredible T20I career with
a Player of the Match performance.
At the conclusion of his international career, he has
amassed the greatest runs of any player at the Men's T20 World Cups (1,292 in
35 matches and 33 innings between 2012 and 2024).
In addition, he has a strike rate of 128.81 and an average
of 58.72.
As he retires from T20 international cricket for India, it
is a great moment to reminisce about some of his incredible T20 World Cup
performances.
Pakistan v. 78*, 2012
A thrilling Super Eights encounter in Colombo saw Kohli hit
78 not out off 61 balls and team up with Yuvraj Singh for a crucial
third-wicket partnership that allowed India to win by eight wickets.
Not only did Kohli's batting skills win him Player of the
Match, but he also contributed with the ball, taking 1/21.
v. South Africa, 2014, 72*
It was a scene set for Kohli, chasing a target of 173 in the
semi-final. He led India to the championship with a 72 off 43 balls total that
included five fours and two sixes. Although they came in second place, Kohli
won the player of the tournament award for scoring the most runs (319 total).
Australia v. 82*, 2016
With India hovering at 49/3, Kohli witnessed another
run-chase go to waste in Mohali as he attempted to reach 161. After stabilizing
the innings, they need 39 off the last 18 balls. Kohli unleashed a devastating
comeback, scoring 32 off 11 and leading his team to victory in the Super 10
stage.
v. Pakistan, 2022, 82*
It eludes Kohli to recognize when he is losing. With India
at 31/4 and needing to reach 160, an exceptional effort from an exceptional
player was required.
And that's exactly what the MCG audience received when he
and Hardik Pandya combined to win this Super 12 match in an unexpected fashion
in the last ball, scoring 82 runs off only 53 balls.
76 vs 2024 South Africa
What a fitting way to end. For the momentous occasion, Virat
Kohli is the guy. He bounced back from his inconsistent performance in the
competition leading up to the Final, hitting 76 off 59 to win Player of the
Match once more as India defeated the United States by seven runs.
