Glenn Maxwell is shown no mercy by Kevin Pietersen and Irfan Pathan after matching RCB star Karthik's unwanted feat in the IPL 2024.
Glenn Maxwell was called out by Irfan Pathan and Kevin Pietersen after the RCB star registered a golden duck against RR in the IPL 2024 playoffs.
Considered the 'Big Show' in the Indian Premier League (IPL), superstar Glenn Maxwell proved to be the biggest disappointment for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the eliminator against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday. In an action-packed clash between RCB and RR at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Maxwell equaled Dinesh Karthik's unwanted record. Australia's Maxwell was also dismissed cheaply by former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan.
Taking to Twitter, Pathan questioned Maxwell's shot selection during RCB's match against RR in the IPL 2024 playoffs. "What was Maxwell doing?, "Paul mentioned in his post. The RCB superstar was also slammed by former England captain Kevin Pietersen during commentary. "What was that Glenn Maxwell thing?" Pietersen asked on air."It's a very big game; you need your biggest players to perform; you need to give yourself a chance. That's not good enough for Glenn Maxwell.”
Maxwell equals Karthik's record of being dismissed for a duck in the IPL
Maxwell was dismissed by veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in his match-changing over against RCB. After dismissing an on-song Cameron Green for a 21-ball 27, Ashwin gave Maxwell a golden duck in the IPL 2024 Eliminator at the world's largest cricket stadium.
With the golden duck, Maxwell equaled Karthik's dubious record in the IPL. Maxwell and Karthik hold the record of being dismissed for a duck 18–18 times in the cash-rich league.
Karthik and Maxwell are followed by India captain Rohit Sharma, who has 17 ducks to his name in the IPL. Piyush Chawla, Mandeep Singh, and Sunil Narine have failed to open their accounts on 15 occasions.
Talking more about the match, Ashwin dismissed Green and Maxwell in the 12th over as RCB posted 172-8 in 20 overs. Spin wizard Ashwin took two wickets and conceded 19 runs in four overs. Fast bowler Avesh Khan took three wickets and gave away 44 runs in his crucial spell. Interestingly, Ashwin has the second-highest number of wickets in the IPL playoffs. The RR spinner had 21 wickets to his name at the end of the competition.
"I messaged Virat Kohli and said, 'It's been a two-part tournament for me. In the first half of the tournament, I was struggling due to injuries from the Test Series. In the last few games, I think I've been bowling really well. I messaged Virat and said, Let's fight one more time (smiles). The dew has come on well. The IPL committee has done well overall in the tournament to deal with the dew." Ashwin said during the inning break.
