The popular Shiba Inu of the 'Doge' meme has died at the age of 18

The famous "dog meme" was inspired by a popular Japanese Shiba Inu named Kabosu, who sadly passed away. Atsuko Sato, the owner of Kabosu, posted a blog entry announcing the beloved dog's passing. "She quietly passed away as if asleep while I caressed her," she reportedly remarked.
She also praised the dog's supporters for showing her such affection.
Kabosu will hold a farewell ceremony at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori in Narita city on Sunday from 1pm to 4pm, reports The Times of India.

On February 13, 2010, Japanese kindergarten teacher Atsuko Sato posted several pictures of her new Shiba Inu puppy Kabosu on her personal website.
Among the photos that went viral was a strange one, in which Kabosu was seen lying on a sofa and looking sideways at the camera with raised eyebrows.

Caboose was nicknamed "Doge" on June 24, 2005, after using a misspelling to describe dogs in an episode of the Homestar Runner puppet show.

Shortly after "Doge" gained popularity, in December 2013, the tech news website The Verge published a piece identifying Sato's Kabosu as the original Shiba Inu in the meme. In addition to Kabosu, The Verge identified 'Suki,' a Shiba Inu owned by San Francisco-based photographer Jonathan Fleming, as the canine featured in another prevalent meme.
