As retiring captain Rohit Sharma gave Hardik Pandya thanks
for bowling a brilliant last over in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, Pandya broke
down in tears.
Pandya started crying after Sharma's speech at the Wankhede
Stadium.
After hearing Rohit Sharma speak at Wankhede Stadium, Hardik
Pandya starts crying. Hardik Pandya is credited by Rohit Sharma for winning the
T20 World Cup.
After listening to Rohit Sharma's speech at the Wankhede
Stadium on Thursday, July 4, India's all-round player Hardik Pandya started
crying.
After hearing Rohit's remarks, Hardik Pandya, who had an
emotional roller coaster upon his return to Wankhede, MI's Indian Premier
League home, started crying.
The same Mumbai crowd jeered and teased Pandya when he took
over as captain of MI for the 2024 Indian Premier League after Rohit Sharma
retired. After making his IPL debut for MI, Pandya quit the team to captain GT
in the 2022 and 2023 competitions. The dispute over the all-rounder's 2024 return
to MI split the fan base.
IN THE T20 WORLD CUP FINAL, PANDYA
When India needed to defend 16 runs in the last over, its
top all-rounder and vice captain was assigned to bowl the final over. His tears
after finishing the task for India demonstrated how much this victory meant to
him. With his brilliant bowling, India won by seven runs.
With the wicket of Heinrich Klaasen in the game's 17th over,
Pandya played a critical role in bringing India back into the tournament. At
that point, South Africa needed just 26 runs from 24 balls and was almost
winning easily.
The Indian bowlers produced one of the most spectacular
comebacks in the history of the T20 World Cup finals following Klaasen's
wicket. It was a fitting send-off for a guy who had shown decisiveness just
when India needed it.
In the final over of the exciting match, Suryakumar
demonstrated remarkable mental fortitude by holding onto an incredible catch at
long range that changed the tide of the match in India's favor.
South Africa's David Miller blasted a full toss from Hardik
Pandya high in the air towards long-off with 16 runs needed to win off the
final six balls.
Nevertheless, the ball dropped just inside the boundary
toward Suryakumar, who was able to securely retrieve it, as the southpaw was
unable to reach the distance.
The Indian fielder appeared to be losing pace as he
approached the boundary, but he displayed excellent decision-making skills by
getting rid of the ball just in time before he dropped outside it. With
lightning speed, Suryakumar leaped inside to reclaim the ball and make one of
the best catches in ICC tournament history. Miller was forced to retire to the
pavilion as a result, having scored 21 (17), with his side still needing 16 off
the final five balls to win.
In order to assist India, win their second T20 World Cup by seven runs, Pandya remained composed after dismissing Miller and successfully defended 15 runs.
